WEEK 1

CHARACTER CHALLENGE WEEK ONE . THE WHOS

TIME: Starts May 25th and ends on June 6th (this is an extended time to get us on track. After this challenge everything will only be for one week).

CHALLENGE: Design your interpretation of the Who species. You are NOT drawing a specific Who (such as Mayor McDodd or JoJo).

DESCRIPTION: "The Whos are a race of microscopic beings who come in many different sizes. They all live in the microscopic world of Whoville, located in a dust speck on a flower on the top of Mt. Nool. They are an extremely cheerful race that enjoys celebrations such as Christmas, where they celebrate the Whobilation (a big Christmas celebration) and the Who Centennial (A ceremony celebrating numerous years of peace and harmony in Whoville). The Whos and Whoville itself appear in the books Horton Hears a Who! and How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and also in the 1977 television special, Grinch Night."

HELLO

Hello and thanks for clicking the random links I send you ha ha.

So, this blog is kind of a crazy idea that Erin and I had to practice some character designing over the summer. I like the idea of posting to a blog because we can get critiques and also we can easily share this! But anyway, I'll explain.

We were trying to think of what type of character design challenge we could do, and we came to the conclusion that it might be really cool to do re-designs (kind of like Project Rooftop). But instead of superheroes, we thought it would be neat to actually re-design/revisit Dr. Seuss characters. His characters are unique and already have great stories to them, and I thought it would be really cool to see how everyone would do the characters in their own way.

Please note I'm not saying we're re-designing them because his designs are bad, because that's ridiculous. They're excellent and he's amazing; we're just doing this for fun. I've talked about this once before and people were a little confused as to why we would re-design something that already works so well...the answer: Because why not? LET'S DO THIS.

SO IT WORKS LIKE THIS: Add the blog. You don't need to do every challenge, it's totally fine. I know a lot of you are busy, so if you miss a 'deadline' that's fine ha ha. I don't care. Every week there will be a new character description uploaded to the blog, and you'll have to re-design the character. It's pretty simple. Post your design during the week the character is revealed (this is ideal), but if you can't do it in a week that's fine, just post it whenever you're done!

Got it? GOOD.
